Neither here nor there

Pros - 1080p playback with HDMI.
- records onto DVD-RWs
Cons - 1080p/HDMI only for playback
- Does not read non-region encoded...
Recommended it? No

I'm definitely regretting this purchase. I was in the market for a recording device. A DVR from the cable company would run me a monthly fee. A Tivo also has a monthly fee. I figured it would be cheaper to get a DVD recorder that reads and writes rewritable DVDs. Good bye monthly fees. It's... A decent player/recorder with one excellent capability

Pros Good performance, permissive recording, low price
Cons Odd noises
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this DVD recorder to replace a 2004 model one that died. In the interim, a seriously unfair and ridiculous copy protection scheme went into effect on many channels. The old recorder didn't notice the signal, but a "brand P" one which I initially bought did. It worked fine on some channels,... Read full review »

I love this machine, the DVD portion of it is awesome, records great, I have had this Toshiba for about a year and I have had no problems at all with it.My only real complaint is that the machine records HD great but the transfer signal while watching the program or movie does not appear to be... A True Winner, by far the best combo system yet

Pros Built In Fan which prolongs life
VHS player is in synch with DVD
Cons No pass through of signal and sound when unit is turned off
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned many DVD recorders since 2002, and finally Toshiba gets it. The Toshiba D-VR610 has the very best clearity, sharp images and abilty to reproduce HD signals from your cable box. By having S-Video input as well as RCA in, you are able to capture HD and regular TV shows with 16:9 and 3:2...
