Meet Sony's incredibly small high definition camcorder: the HDR-HC1. At just under a pound and a half, it has tons of features. First, it has genuine 1080i resolution, so you shoot in real HDTV. Second, it uses HDV, which brings the resolution of HD to a tape the size of a Mini DV cartridge. Menu options are easy to choose, thanks to the 2.7" widescreen LCD SwivelScreen monitor. Super NightShot and Super SteadyShot Pro ensure great video under any conditions. Manual focus, zoom, shutter speed and white balance put you in total control. Sony goes one better than a CCD by using a CMOS sensor to generate images. This 3-megapixel CMOS processes faster than a CCD for richer color and better detail. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens also adds color and detail, plus reduces glare with its special T coating. Less

Pros Great video quality.
Cons Fairly expensive. Doesn't have as many features as some standard definition...
Recommended it? Yes

This camera is really your only option right now for consumer HD video recording. The price is fairly steep due to the lack of competition, but it isn't unreasonable. The camcorder records video in 1080i HDV format on regular miniDV cassettes.

The camera is very compact and stylish,... Read full review »

INTRODUCTION
As an owner of an FX1 I decided to replace my Canon XM2 with a second HD camera, primarily to use as a safety cam & perhaps a player to save wearing out my man cam.

It's worth pointing out how small the HC1 is, I would put it at about a quarter of the FX1, almost pocket... Read full review »

Very nice camera for a decent price EASY SOFTWARE

Pros Beautiful images, compress to email very well, small, easy software for download, works...
Cons awkward to hold, touchy zoom, useless GPS, Sony service
Recommended it? Yes

My last camera was a Sony MMV (coincidence) and is now about 7 years old.  When preparing to buy a new one I knew two things:  It needed to by HD and, 2) it needed to be small.  I tried to do extensive product reviews on the available models and their respective qualities.  I found that it appeared... Pros recording to 120G hard-drive, daylight video quality, Steady Shot, included software
Cons no viewfinder, LCD in sunlight, very noisy lowlight recording, no shoulder strap
Recommended it? No

I've purchased this camcorder as a replacement for the aging Sony DCRTRV18 mini DV which I've enjoyed for over 6 years. Before I've purchased DCRTRV18 I've tried similar Canon and JVC. Sony was the best and it made an obvious choice as a replacement candidate.

I'm using HDR-XR200V for... Read full review »
