Pros Sturdy construction, easy to follow on-screen menu
Cons no noticeable video improvements through HDMI, annoying pops from optical audio connection

I currently own DVP-NS975V unit which has been a good universal player except for its known firmware bugs (i.e. sudden tray-lock and very slow responses) in its earlier production run. Good-Great picture with HDMI but... Sony cheaped out a little for an ES piece. All the new silver ES pieces to this point had the new embossed SONY logo on the front panel which was very cool. Although my current DVD players of choice a recent Pioneer models, I checked out Sony DVP-NS710H/B upconverting DVD player. I was recently impressed with the Pioneer DV-220V-K and Pioneer DV-420V-K.
