Cons no noticeable video improvements through HDMI, annoying pops from optical audio connection

I currently own DVP-NS975V unit which has been a good universal player except for its known firmware bugs (i.e. sudden tray-lock and very slow responses) in its earlier production run. Good-Great picture with HDMI but... Sony cheaped out a little for an ES piece. All the new silver ES pieces to this point had the new embossed SONY logo on the front panel which was very cool. Family travel is a great opportunity for togetherness and sharing fun times --- it can also be a source of infinite irritation when parents forget to plan ahead for on-the-road entertainment.
