Joggers, snowboarders, and other outdoor enthusiasts will delight in the Sony MDR-J20 headphones, as their contoured clips follow the curve of the ears to ensure a snug fit even when bouncing around. The headphones also feature a flexible ear hanger that reduces stress on the ear, along with an open-air design that lets in ambient sound without sacrificing the quality of the music. The latter function is particularly important when skateboarding or running, as users can listen for traffic noise and other audible threats. It's the audio, however, that matters to most listeners, and the MDR-J20 headphones deliver on that count, too. Each earpiece carries a powerful neodymium magnet that provides great sound at frequencies between 18 Hz and 22 kHz. Don't give in to poorly designed, bulky headphones that slow you down while exercising. The MDR-J20s, which weigh a mere 0.35 ounces, are a perfect fit. Less

Works Fine - Good Sound - They Stay On While Active

byraptorbill Aug 17, 2008

Pros Inexpensive Over the Ear Design, reasonably comfortable
Cons Sound is OK, not fantastic
Recommended it? Yes

I've been looking for the ultimate set of headphones while working out for decades. Exercising is boring, so I started with a Walkman (listening to taped audio books) and evolved over the years to my current iPod (listening primarily to Podcasts - mostly from National Public Radio).

Sony MDR-J20 is a unique, problematic headphone

Pros no tangle cord! over-ear strap
Cons the sound quality is not constant, not very hard to break
Recommended it? No

I run a little. Jog is a more fitting term for what I do. I'm not one of those authentic joggers either... I run on a treadmill at the gym. I've got an Ipod Mini and I like to make 25 minute track lists while i'm warming up and then do my thing. Anyway... after seeing two magazine ads in one week... Read full review »

Big headphones, good performance, tidy price

bymonoblocks Oct 28, 2009

Pros Great comfort; good (though not great), balanced sound; affordable.
Cons 'Extra bass' claim somewhat disingenious. Questionable aethetics. Sound leaks.
Recommended it? Yes

In truth I had never been much of a fan of Sony's earlier stand-alone headphone offerings, mostly because I haven't had much luck with their sonic capabilities or found that their comfort was less than satisfactory or--worse yet--both aspects were problematic in a single design. While others have... Read full review »

I first heard these extroidinary headphones at Best Buy.  I wanted them immediatley.   So I went on Amazon to get them for $79.  When I got them in the mail I was very excited and couldn't wait to listen to them.  I put on a heavy bass song to try them out.  I recognized... Read full review »
