The late 1990s were a time of musical turmoil. The end of the brooding "grunge" movement had effectively stunted rock and roll. In my opinion, the overall purpose of Black History Month is to take time to remember and honor the achievements of blacks throughout history while recognizing that we are all equal, which is what people such as Martin Luther King, Jr. fought so hard for.
