Take this from a guy who has run through nearly a dozen DVD players. This includes one MS Xbox used as DVD player, because prior to getting that thing, I couldn't find a DVD player that would universally play discs...

The Philips DVP3660 DVD player is inexpensive. I have had 2 of these DVD players. I purchased them because I dd not have the money at the time for anything better. Both of the Philips DVD players lasted about 90 days. With the first one I thought perhaps I had been a little rough...
