Is this camera for real?

bycolonialpara Dec 12, 2006
72 Helpfuls 73 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Small, light weight, beautifully realized images. Price Point.
Cons Inability to AF with all Nikon lenses. Consumer quality build.
Recommended it? Yes

The Nikon D40 with 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AF-S AF lens is this company's bare bones entry level offering in the extremely volatile digital SLR market. As the two giants of the industry, Canon and Nikon vie for an ever increasing slice of the dSLR pie, Nikon has taken a calculated marketing gamble by... Read full review »

Great Digital SLR for a beginner or a pro

byfunnytallguy Jul 26, 2008
11 Helpfuls 12 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Battery life, low price, lots of settings but also takes great pictures on auto mode.
Cons Size and weight when compared to a point-and-click digital.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this camera as a Black Friday special to give my wife as a Christmas present. She's an artist and needs to take very high quality pictures of her art for her portfolio. Point and click pictures just don't cut it when you're competing for a scholarship to a prestigious art school. I've... Read full review »

Great camera for beginning photographer that wants more than point and snap

byjoshsparents Nov 1, 2008
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros great pictures, easy to use, great value for price
Cons Only 3 focus boxes in the viewfinder, not as portable as a point and snap
Recommended it? Yes

I love this camera! I've enjoyed taking pictures with a point and snap (both film and digital) for years.  My husband decided it was time I take my hobby up a notch this past Christmas and surprised with me this camera & lens. I've taken about 6000 pictures since I received it Christmas morning... Read full review »
