Pros Very Good Sound Quality
Cons Be sure you turn your mic on and then off when you put it away.
Recommended it? Yes

I own this SONY mic. I also own several other external camcorder mics. I recorded a test with each of the mics with my camcorder - a person talking about five feet in front of the camcorder and mic. Pros Better sound, better stereo than built in mike.
Cons Poor method of telling whether mike is on. Is it worth the $'s?
Recommended it? Yes

I'm not a pro, so these are my subjective feelings.
More pure sound with less distortion.
Better stereo separation than built in mike.
Used on new Hitachi DVD recording school orchestras.
