This unit has a ATSC tuner for high definition TV, a NTSC tuner for standard broadcast, and a QAM tuner for receiving unencrypted, high definition TV from basic analog cable. I wish that I could say that this is a great product and that I'm very pleased, but unfortunately I'm not.
It's a shame to hear that these devices are prone to locking up, and unfortunately, I'm also victim of a bad unit.

We don't have cable, satellite, or any other pay-tv service, so when we were looking for DVD recorders, it had to have a tuner. That eliminated about 95% of the models on the market. Of those remaining, the Panasonic had the best reviews, so we picked it up over the summer and haven't looked...
