Alright, this year Santa brought TiVo to our house and after 2 months of usage the feelings are mixed towards this new companion. It does pretty much everything it claims to be, but there is enough room for improvement that keeps us from getting all too excited at this point.

Nice features, HD is lacking but improving

Pros Ease of use, good picture, good features retained.
Cons Over priced, more complicated, lesser quality HD.
Recommended it? No

Since the advent of mini dishes, I've enjoyed the liberation from noisy cable and over the air antennas. I started with Dishes 400 series, worked my way up to their DVR and am now enjoying the HD DVR VIP 612.

Pros All functions work as advertised.
Cons USES AS MUCH POWER AS A FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR!
Recommended it? No

I measured it with my Kill-A-Watt meter and this satellite box uses 40 watts minimum whether it's on or off. In a year that's 350 kWhr. A Kenmore model #44123 16.7 cu. ft. refrigerator uses that same amount according to the EPA's Energy Star web site.
