Sony's RDR-GX7 DVD Recorder is an exciting product that takes advantage of recordable DVD (DVD-RW and DVD+RW) as well as write-once DVD-R discs. The unit is designed to function similarly to a VCR, but with far more capabilities and ease of use. The built-in NTSC TV tuner records programs with the simplicity of a conventional VCR and includes VCR Plus+. Channel information as well as time and date are stored automatically for each recording. Pros Move your VHS tapes to DVD...permanently! Great instruction manual.
Cons Somewhat pricey, can be difficult to setup

Following my successful conversion of cassette tapes to CD-R TDK VeloCD CD-RW burner, my next project was to convert all my VHS tapes and camcorder tapes to DVD format. Any recordable tape will degrade over time and there's also the concern of a tape getting eaten by the player, ruining it... Read full review »

I picked up the Sony RDR-GX7 at a local electronics retailer this past August for nearly $100, as this was old display stock that sat around since it was released, back in 2003.  No one bit on it for quite a while, so I did - they had several different recorders for the same price.

This will be a very short review as my experience with a WORKING Cyberhome 1600 is very limited. I purchased one in May '05 at my neighborhood Best Buy.

I tried to transfer footage from my DV Camcorder, but ran into problems right away. The machine must format the DVD+R disc before... Read full review »

Pros Inexpensive, good instruction manual.
Cons Poorly made, remote would not work properly, entire unit broke after 6 weeks.

I purchased the Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD Recorder at my local Best Buy in March. I was confident that I was buying a good product because # 1 – it's coming from Best Buy and # 2 – I have a compact Cyberhome DVD player that has worked fine for a couple of years. I needed a new DVD player to replace a... Read full review »
