The DMC-FZ7 features a lens with a remarkable 12x optical zoom, equivalent to a 36 to 432mm lens on a 35mm film camera. A film camera with an optical zoom this powerful would be so big and heavy, you couldn't handle it with one hand. However, the DMC-FZ7 is small, lightweight and easy to handle. It also has Panasonic's Extended Optical Zoom. While causing minimal deterioration by using the center part of the high resolution CCD, this function magnifies the image to give you total zoom power of 16.5x1. The DMC-FZ7 features a large, 2.5" diagonal LCD and the Power LCD function. The pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD increases the brightness level of the live image on the LCD, which greatly facilitates shooting in low lighting. Simply touch the Power LCD button and the display becomes about 40% brighter for easier viewing on sunny days. Less

Pros Picture quality, resolution, price, features, included accessories, TIFF, size, weight,...
Cons No super-wide angle, no RAW
Recommended it? Yes

I have sold my 5-Megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 a while ago in favor of a smaller camera, but wanted to see if the new 6-Megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 is a remarkably different camera. I liked the FZ5's features, menu system and overall performance and liked the FZ5 better than the Canon S2... Read full review »

Here's the bottom line up front: I like this camera very much.

In this review, you will find numerous references to the Panasonic FZ20. My last digicam was the Pana FZ20, probably overall the best and most useful camera I ever owned. I sold the FZ20 a few months back, assuming that... Read full review »

Canon's A495 - Lean & Mean style

byHoward_Creech Jan 7, 2011
54 Helpfuls 55 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Cheap, very good pictures
Cons None at this price
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon Powershot A495 is a compact digicam available on-line for less than ninety dollars. What do buyers have to give up when they buy an A495?  The A495 doesn’t provide an optical viewfinder, relying instead on the 2.5 inch LCD for framing/composition, captured image review, and... Low-cost, basic point-n-shoot camera with good video

bydenniskly Oct 4, 2010
17 Helpfuls 18 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Inexpensive, good pictures, easy to use, good video
Cons poor battery consumption,  too long to load flash for next shot, shuttle realease...
Recommended it? Yes

Although I already have a compact camera(Canon G11), it’s still too bulky to carry around, so, I look for a sub-compact camera that can be easily put into a pocket, a basic, no-frill, point-n-shoot and has to be cheap. After a long search I come up with a $99 Canon Powershot A495. I've been... Read full review »
