Panasonic introduces the 6-megapixel, 3.6x optical zoom DMC-FX01, the next-generation model of the stylish and compact MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer-equipped FX series. The FX series boasts high picture quality, a large LCD and a slim, stylish design. The DMC-FX01 features a remarkable upgrade from previous FX models, with the newly incorporated 28mm wide angle 3.6x optical zoom LEICA DC lens, while still maintaining the same compact body size. The wide angle shooting capability offers a new array of photographic opportunities, such as capturing an entire group portrait at parties, or an expansive landscape or architectural scene, to enjoy the benefit of wide panoramas with real perspectives. In addition to MEGA Optical Image Stabilization, the FX01 features a new High Sensitivity mode3, which allows shooting at a maximum sensitivity setting of ISO 1600. Less

bydkozin Sep 28, 2006

Pros Long battery life, image stabilization, low price, image quality, wide angle, compact
Cons Slightly higher noise than Canon SD700, black case prone smudges, LCD washes out in...
Recommended it? Yes

After using and selling the Canon SD700 IS, I have purchased the Panasonic DMC-FX01. The FX01 is similar to the Canon SD700: it has compact design, large LCD and optical image stabilization. The Canon SD700 is slightly more compact, the Panasonic FX01 has a wide angle lens and sells for $100 less... Read full review »

A small camera compromise champion

byhow2buy101 Jun 24, 2006
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Take-it-all-in wide angle: point and click almost always gets a useable picture.
Cons Relatively noisy (mostly chrominance), noticeable in large blowups. No zoom in movie mode.
Recommended it? Yes

Ease of use matters!

When it comes to cameras, it's easy to let your desire for perfection get in the way of letting you take as many pictures as you should. I ooh and ah over the gorgeous, near noiseless photos from my Digital Rebel SLR (also 6 megapixels). There I can save the RAW... Read full review »

Canon's A495 - Lean & Mean style

byHoward_Creech Jan 7, 2011
54 Helpfuls 55 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Cheap, very good pictures
Cons None at this price
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon Powershot A495 is a compact digicam available on-line for less than ninety dollars. What do buyers have to give up when they buy an A495?  The A495 doesn’t provide an optical viewfinder, relying instead on the 2.5 inch LCD for framing/composition, captured image review, and... Low-cost, basic point-n-shoot camera with good video

bydenniskly Oct 4, 2010
17 Helpfuls 18 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Inexpensive, good pictures, easy to use, good video
Cons poor battery consumption,  too long to load flash for next shot, shuttle realease...
Recommended it? Yes

Although I already have a compact camera(Canon G11), it’s still too bulky to carry around, so, I look for a sub-compact camera that can be easily put into a pocket, a basic, no-frill, point-n-shoot and has to be cheap. After a long search I come up with a $99 Canon Powershot A495. I've been... Read full review »
