The AS-P400 is a high powered active subwoofer designed for use in high powered Audio Video systems, like a system comprised of AUDITION Series speakers from athena TECHNOLOGIES?. A custom designed 400 watt peak, 100 watt RMS amplifier drives the over built 10" Injection Molded polypropylene woofer, both built in house in athena's Toronto facility. The cabinet is a front firing, front vented design which allows for much easier room placement than traditional rear vented designs. Less

I have used the subwoofer from the Athena Point Five speaker package for about a year and change and then bought a replacement: the Athena AS-P400 for $173.

Pros Great sound, powerful bass, low price.
Cons Sounds a little sloppy below 35 hz

I originally bought this sub about 1 year ago for parties at my house. While in college I wanted a high powered sub while still staying below $500. Pros Sparkling sound, great price
Cons Can't play 'em so loud as to be heard in the next county.
Recommended it? Yes

Let's get one thing straight.  For the money, you won't find a nicer sounding speaker.  These are warm and easy to listen to.  Head and shoulders above other low cost options such as Behringer, and though JBL, Mackie and Electro Voice make some nice speakers, I'd put the Yamaha's...
