We didn't think that a phone receiver could really help someone who is hard of hearing until we tried the Ameriphone XL-50.

Pros Big Buttons (its for hard of hearing, not vision impared!)
Cons When the battery goes out the phone is useless.
Recommended it? No

I bought this phone (at a higher price than listed, I must add) for my husband whom is hard of hearing. At first we were impressed, but we didn't expect much.
The "amplify" button does very little. Yes, it amplifies, but almost at un-audible level.

Pros Great design and layout. Easy operation. Long battery life, great range.
Cons Outgoing volume is unacceptably low!!! No fast forward feature in answering machine.
Recommended it? No

I have to yell into the phone in order for people on the other end to hear me.

I can hear them fine.
