Buyer Beware - A Terrible Experience

Don't be fooled by the ease of ordering (which it was) the problems come later.

I ordered a wireless router that had a rebate deal on it and also ordered a memory card for my digital camera. I received the email saying that it had shipped. The shipment arrived, it only had the memory card, not the wireless router, but I was given no warning about this and received no notice about a pending shipment. I called to find out where the order was, I had to stay on hold for 45 minutes before I got anyone only to find out the item was backordered (didn't you receive an email about this? No I didn't geniuses). I thought everything would go smoothly after this. I was wrong.

The wireless router arrived over 2 weeks after I placed the order and was expecting it. I looked it over a few days after receiving it on the first weekend it was in my possession, decided that I could figure out how to use the router and went to print my rebate forms. One of the rebates (the larger one, of course) had expired 2 days before. I call CompUsa.com to say, listen, it's not my fault I got this shipment late, it was you that put it on backorder not me (did I mention that there was never any indication when I bought the product that it was even remotely backordered). Anyway, they said, since technically you received the product before the rebate expired, we can't help you with that. Huh? You're kidding me , right? You delayed the shipment and because I couldn't look at it the day it was finally delivered (I do have a job, you know) and only 2 days after, I can't get the rebate? I told them that makes no sense. I said, so you don't care if I get this on Sept. 29, that's still before the rebate date. They said, well for the day before, we "sometimes" make an exception. I said and for Sept. 28? They said, no you would have had time to postmark it. Great, glad your policies are so customer friendly.

I said, well I only bought it for the rebate, I could easily return this and get the exact same price or better from your competitor on the next sale. I said, what do I need to take with me to return this to the store near me. They say, oh, well it's at the store's discretion whether they accept an online return. Again, I said, that doesn't make sense, why have the store if you can't make an easy return. They are sending something to me to make the return, I have to print out the label (I don't have a printer unpacked - I just moved - and why don't they send the return label with the order like every other company?). There is no reason to work this hard when you are giving a company a lot of money for their product. No reason at all.

So, yeah I had nothing but problems with CompUsa.com which is a shame because I had high hopes, the people at their stores are very friendly, but online is nothing but a headache. Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that I was transferred at least 4 times when calling about the rebate problem and told it wouldn't be a problem to get the rebate since the delay was on their side or at the least would be able to get a refund of the same amount credited back to my card. This obviously didn't happen. Like I said, not very customer friendly customer service.
