This wine is from United States, California region, Sonoma County sub-region. The name 'Dynamite' was inspired by the method used in excavating the winery site in the early 1980s. With thehelp of detonation experts and a lot of dynamite, the site for our vineyard and winery was carved out of the rugged,rocky slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, located between the Sonoma and Napa Valleys.The wine is made from grapes from several excellent vineyards in the North Coast counties of Sonoma, Napa andMendocino, along with a portion of our own mountain-grown fruit. Two vineyard blocks located on a bench above Kelsey Creek in the Kelseyville area of Lake County are the sourcesfor our 2002 Sauvignon Blanc. For many years, Lake County has enjoyed a reputation for producing some of thefinest Sauvignon Blanc grapes in the entire state of California.We picked the grapes when they were fully ripe and transferred them directly to the press without crushing ordestemming, the gentlest method of handling delicate white grapes. After pressing and settling, the juice was coldfermentedin stainless steel tanks to capture and preserve the fresh fruit aromatics and flavors. Following the long,slow fermentation, the wine was further stored in stainless steel tanks at cold cellar temperatures until bottling.
