Good for a small child
Pros
child-friendly device with carrying case to hang from headrest, 16:9 ratio screen
Cons
Durability seems to be a consistent problem
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Good for a child who is likely to break it eventually anyway. Bad for an adult who will be frustrated when it stops working for no reason.
I bought a Coby 7050 Portable DVD Player last fall to let my two-year old son play his DVDs and CDs during long car trips. It worked for just under a year, but recently started giving us "Wrong Disk" errors -- now it will not play any DVD or CD.
Picture and sound quality were both good, and the player has lots of nice features, including a 'hold' setting that lets your child push buttons without affecting what is playing. It comes with a carrying case that lets you hang it from a car headrest, and also has an easel stand that worked nicely on an airplane tray. (From what I understand, the case is a fairly unique feature, especially in this price range.) The price includes a rechargable battery, both car and wall outlet power cords, two sets of headphones, and a remote control.
I do not think I would buy this player again if I wanted it for my own use. But rather than buy a more expensive unit just to have my son break it, I will probably buy another Coby 7050 and hope to get another year from it. I wish it were about $20 cheaper, since that it seems to be a disposable device.
