Excellent High Definition TV!

Pros Exceptional picture quality, built-in HDTV tuner and digital cable box, decent audio
Cons Takes a long time to turn on/off, slow tuning into digital channels, noisy fan
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This TV delivers an exceptional picture quality, has a built-in HDTV tuner and a digital cable box, variety of inputs, and a decent audio.
I bought Mitsubishi WD-52725 52" Wide Screen DLP Projection TV about a month ago and I absolutely love it! The picture it produces is incredible with bright vibrant yet very natural colors.

It also comes with a built-in ATSC (HDTV) tuner, and built-in digital cable box that supports the CableCARD technology. What that means is that instead of getting a cable box from your cable provider (for which cable operators charge additional fee), your cable provider supplies you with a Smart Card that needs to be inserted into a special slot in the back of the TV, so the built-in digital cable box can descramble premium channels.

Even without the CableCARD the built-in cable box can tune into all the digital channels that are not scrambled, and the picture quality of the digital channels is absolutely superb.

The only inconvenience with the built-in digital cable box is that, unlike the regular digital cable boxes, it can't be controlled externally by other devices (like TiVo for example).

And the quality of picture in the HDTV mode is incredible! The only annoying thing is that it takes 4 to 5 seconds to tune in into a digital channel (both HDTV and digital cable). In contrast it only takes about 1 second to tune into an analog channel.

In addition to the ATSC tuner Mitsubishi WD-52725 has a second regular NTSC tuner for picture-in-picture functionality.

The picture quality for analog channels is quite good too, although, of course, it depends on the quality of the signal. One thing I noticed though that I couldn't see with my old 35" CRT TV: the difference between the picture quality directly from cable and after it goes through stand alone TiVo. Since stand alone TiVo always first encodes incoming signal into MPEG2 and then plays it back out, the very slight loss of video quality due to MPEG compression (even in the highest quality mode) was completely unnoticeable on my old CRT TV, but is slightly visible on Mitsubishi WD-52725 (probably due to the larger screen size and a more precise nature of the TV technology). So you the TiVo junkies (myself included!) beware! This TV may kill the joy of TiVo for you!

Mitsubishi WD-52725 is also equipped with a very decent audio system:
2x10 Watt, with 2 way speakers for each channel. The audio quality of this TV is comparable to such of a mid-range mini audio system. It also has a coax digital audio out that can be plugged into an A/V receiver. In my particular case, I do have my Mitsubishi WD-52725 plugged into a receiver, but I find the quality of the built-in audio system of this TV good enough to rely upon for most of the programs I watch on TV.

Among other features this TV offers are:

- 8 different display formats
- 3 analog audio / video / S-Video inputs (one of which is in the front panel)
- 3 component video / audio inputs
- 1 PC input (up to 1280x720 pixels)
- 2 antenna / cable inputs
- 1 HDMI input
- 3 IEEE-1394 inputs (one of which is in the front panel)
- 1 RS-232C connector
- 4 Media Card slots (MMC, SD, Smart Media, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, all in the front panel)

And finally a few things I dislike about this TV:

1) It takes 15-20 seconds from the moment it is turned on until you can see the picture. After that it takes another 20-30 seconds until the picture reaches full brightness.

2) It takes even longer (around 40 seconds) to turn this TV off. The picture disappears immediately, but the fan is still going, and until it is fully off it can't be turned back on. To make the long story short, if you accidentally press the Power button on the remote control and turn the TV off, it will take around 1 minute to turn it back on!

3) The fan is really noisy.
