The Bottom Line:
Really a terrific investment which will hold it's value over time.
We have recently upgraded our phone service to Vonage. Since we're maintaining our regular land line for a while, I wanted to be able to have the new phones in locations where we might not otherwise be able to have them. The VTech i5867 fits the bill perfectly.
The i5867 is the base station for our phones. It is the central hub which is plugged into the phone line. All the rest of the phones simply communicate with the base station and have no need for a phone line. As such, we can have phones in rooms where there isn't a phone jack! Places like the garage and basement now have phones even though they only have electrical outlets! COOL!
The i5867 and the supporting extension stations (such as the i5807) all have a very cool feature set. In addition to having a color screen which can support various wallpapers, they also have a variety of built in ring tones. Even cooler than that though, is the fact that you can customize ring tones in conjunction with the Caller ID such that when my parents call, it plays one ring tone and when my wife's parents call, it plays a different ring tone.
You can also connect the phones to your computer and upload your own ring tones and pictures for wall papers. That way, you can really customize things! Now, when my buddy calls me, I know it just by the ring tone.
These are solidly built phones and have a fantastic feature set. My only real complaint is that they're a bit larger than other phones. Given the superior features they provide though, it's easy to overlook that.
