The Bottom Line:
Don't waste sixty dollars for two handsets with this phone the second won't hold up.
I was originally so excited to be buying this phone. We only have one phone jack in my house and so this made it possible to have two phones. I bought it for a reasonable price. At sixty dollars I didn't think it was a bad deal. I brought it home and set it up. All the features were very easy to use and set up was a breeze.
Both phones worked incredibly well for the first month or so. Then all of a sudden the second phone started cutting out during phone calls. I would get really bad static on the line. The batteries would not stay charged and it would just hang up in the middle of conversations. It got even more irritating when the darn thing would not turn on. The phone would start ringing and I would run to answer it but the phone would not connect. I finally wound up unplugging the second line and putting it in a drawer.
The other draw back was if you had already tried to answer the phone with the bad set and it would not connect you could not turn on the other handset to answer the call. It would disconnect the call!
I called the store where I had purchased it from and they would not take a return because it had been more than thirty days and I got the same flack from the company. So I am back to one phone and out sixty dollars. The original handset that comes on the base with the answering machine works very well. I have no complaints there. The answering machine is a life saver and with three individual mailboxes it is great for my self employed husband. He can receive work messages in one inbox while I receive my messages in another as well as my children being able to recieve their messages in there own inbox.
The phone does have a small memory and can only store 10 speed dial numbers and the caller ID can only hold like 38 numbers, but other than that it is nice.
You can change the ring tones to 4 different preset tones and also lighten and darken the caller id LCD screen. You can adjust the volume digitally on both the phone and answering machine.
Recording a message to the answering machine is a little tricky as you only have thirty seconds to complete it but most answering machines are the same!
The base with the answering machine also has a phone locate button that really comes in handy in my home and it will page both phones until you pick one up and hit the hang up button. I also find it handy to just hit the hang up button when a telemarketer calls instead of having to turn the phone on and off. It will shut the ring off to the phone but still ring through to the answering machine. You can also shut the ringer off at the answering machine if you do not want to be woken up at night from the ringing.
This phone also has a headset jack you can plug into the phone and then buckle the phone to the belt of your pants and go hands free.
