Good Quality, Good Price

Pros Affordable, High Resolution, 17". Lightweight.
Cons Has a great-but-not-perfect picture when viewed from wide angles.

The Bottom Line:  For your average computer user and weekend gamer, this monitor provides a high quality but affordable solution to a CRT or other LCDs.
Yet another high quality monitor from ViewSonic. The 17" is a nice size, and the 1280x1028 resolution is great. It's very bright, even when the sun tries to wash it out. It has an AutoTune feature that's very nice, basically what it does is adjusts your monitor to fit the screen perfectly, and it helps prevent aliasing in text. I bought mine as a replacement for a 19" CRT. Obviously it takes up a lot less room, and is just as bright as the CRT. Gamers such as myself are somewhat concerned about refresh rate when it comes to LCDs. A low refresh rate causes trails (CRTs don't usually have this problem, as they run at 60Hz or higher). The VX710's 22ms response time eliminates most trails, although monitors do exist out there that have 16ms response times if you *have* to have instant visual feedback [I actually can't tell the difference, so I think a lot of it is psychological ;) ]. Another great feature is that the viewing angle is something around 130/140 degrees. What this boils down to is that this screen is viewable from pretty much any angle you'd look at a monitor, including sitting on the ground. Many LCDs will turn all funky colors or fade completely out when viewed at an angle, but not the VX710. I won't say that it's perfectly viewable from all angles though: white begins to turn yellow if I move far enough to one side, and the screen gets a bit darker if I move the viewing angle up or down. Still, when I think back to other LCDs I've used, this is hands down the easiest to view from a wide angle. It also has Analog and DVI inputs for both 'regular' analog VGA and the newer digital outputs, although a DVI cable doesn't come in the box. One downside to this monitor is that it's not very mobile; the screen only adjusts on a pivot up or down, but not side to side. It's not a big deal, but it might be important for some people.
