Ate the first disc!
Pros
Lots of support for multiple disc and video formats.
Cons
Cheap display. Complex drive mechanism has bad failure mode.

I bought this at Costco for $45 because an existing Toshiba DVD player was beginning to have trouble playing brand-new undamaged discs. As soon as I tried to skip an ad on the first disc I put in it, the drive mechanism started chattering loudly enough to make me worried it was damaging the disc. I tried to eject the disc and power off the player to no avail. I finally pulled the power cord to get the noise to stop. When I tried plugging it back in, I got a "1" on the display and the unit wouldn't eject the disc. I unplugged the power again and waited a minute before trying again. This time, there was no indication the unit was even receiving power.
Finally, I got out my screwdriver and disassembled the unit to get my DVD out. I tried the disc in my old Toshiba DVD player and it played with no trouble. This unit is going back to the store, and I'm still trying to figure out what to buy for a good low-end DVD player.
