Cons Remote could be better laid out
Recommended it? Yes

The Toshiba RD-SX32 is DVD recorder (with an 80 Gb hard drive) that can record on rewritable DVD-RAM and DVD-RW discs and on write-once DVD-R discs. It is great to have the ability to use both DVD-RAM and DVD-R/RW.

Appearance

The recorder seems to be well-built and has a cleanly... Read full review »

Pros Built in tuner, DVD creation, multiple bitlevels, multiple input formats
Cons Awkward editing, no direct access to hard disk, copy protect issues, manual poorly...
Recommended it? Yes

First off, this is not a piece of equipment for the faint of heart, but if you are one who doesn't mind reading a manual and taking the time to experiment with the features of the recorder, I think you will be very pleased.

Currently, this is one of the better DVRs out there. Before I got... Read full review »

Great features, but some units have problems with blank discs

Pros Astonishing picture and sound. Records to hard drive immediately, no lag after button...
Cons Some individual units don't accept media well. Manual, remote.
Recommended it? Yes

I just sent my unit in for repair because it will not consistently accept blank media. One minute it will accept brand XYZ and record to it fine, then you pull the next brand new, pristine disc of the same brand off of the spool and it gives the "disc may need cleaning or is damaged physcially... Toshiba RD-XS32 Vs the Newbies

Pros Price, picture quality, HDD, ease of set-up.
Cons Remote truly needs to be reinvented.
Recommended it? Yes

We dove in and bought the RD-XS32 for the HDD/dubbing capabilities. As DVD burning newbies, it more than satisfies our needs and is a good value.

It's Day 2 and so far so good! No "black level bug" and we haven't experienced any difficulty with DVDs...it has read and written on every kind... Read full review »

Pros Great quality, Timeslip feature, big hard drive, DVD-RAM, Easy programming
Cons Unit is slow to startup(not really much of a negative if you ask me)
Recommended it? Yes

After a lot of trials and problems with VCR/DVD combos, I finally dug in and did some hard core research -- and found this great machine! Forget about VCRs from here on out!

The unit has an 80 MB hard drive -- and a DVD recorder. It's all you could ever ask for and more! The only thing I... Read full review »

Pros Price; Easy to connect; Playback features; Easy timer recording settings.
Cons No DVD+R recording;Cumbersome remote;No keyboard input
Recommended it? Yes

I've been shopping for a DVD Player/DVR and stumbled upon this unit being closed out at Best Buy in Phoenix and bought it on the spot for $432 after taxes. I'm glad I did and agree with other reviews with the pro's and con's. I use it as a Tivo, except I don't have to subscribe to Tivo and can't... Read full review »

Pros Great picture quality, fast recording.
Cons wierd interface, BAD Toshiba service
Recommended it? No

The picture is great, the hard drive works well, and it records immediately. I finally got the hang of the remote, and once you do, it works OK.

Editing your content is something else. You have to create chapters, then export them to a title. Then you erase your old title. Moving a... Read full review »

Cons Slightly cumbersome user interface and remote.

This is an initial review of the XS32, I'll add to it as my experience with this unit grows, however I think this may be a valuable resource for potential buyers who want to know what they can do with this unit within a few days of buying one.

I chose the XS32 after looking at the various... Read full review »

Great DVR

Pros Coax and Optical outputs, ability use DVD-RAM
Cons No DVD+R playback
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this DVR about two months ago.

Wiring up (but not operation) the recorder was straightforward. I ran my cable feed to its antenna/cable input and used a set of A/V ins/outs for satelite cable box. The component-video and coaxial digital audio outputs went to my Pioneer receiver... Read full review »
