The Bottom Line:
wouldn't buy another tdk product based on how this one's worked for me. i should have bought a dvd burner first and foremost.
I've had nothing but trouble with it from day one. installation of the mfr's cd didn't have the right driver, my windows xs operating system couldn't find the right driver, I even went online to find the right driver but never found one that worked really well.
this thing takes forever to burn cd's and it sounds like it's dying as it tries to do so. the unit can't be used for extended periods of time because it seems to get tired. i even tried using it ONLY to read a cd to rip to my pc, but it gets overworked, stops working properly and has to be shut down and restarted. actually locked up my pc a few times. And somehow this thing actually scored one of my cd's as it was trying to rip it. i had to resurface the cd and then tried it in my new dvd-rw and it worked. you can't even replace the drive inside the enclosure with another, better, drive because of the way it's constructed.
tdk's software (which comes with this device) totally stinks. it's very rudimentary and basic. windows media player does a better job of burning cd's than tdk's software.
