Great Sound - I Tested It!
I own this SONY mic. I also own several other external camcorder mics. I recorded a test with each of the mics with my camcorder - a person talking about five feet in front of the camcorder and mic. OK, better than built in mike.
I'm not a pro, so these are my subjective feelings.
More pure sound with less distortion.
Better stereo separation than built in mike.
Used on new Hitachi DVD recording school orchestras.

Great "Prosumer" Microphone
I primarily use this microphone for recording my own practice sessions and band concerts. I've used it to record directly to my MD player, and I've run it through mixers to recording devices as well.
