There's a dumb blond in my kitchen

bysundogg99 Jan 11, 2005

Pros Attractive.
Cons Stupid.
Recommended it? No

There must be some sort of immutable law of the universe that causes household stuff to expand inexorably to a volume just slightly larger than whatever space might be available to hold it. Ergo, clutter.

At my house, we wage the battle against clutter in a variety of ways: we recycle; we... Read full review »

Don't buy it for the radio part

byphodographer Mar 24, 2005
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Looks, compactness
Cons Poor reception, no way to adjust antenna, no inputs, does not support MP3
Recommended it? No

Looks good and compact, but that's about the only plus. Does not live up to Sony brand reputation. One of their worse products.

This radio has one major drawback - it has no reception. The problem is due to its internal antenna. It would be nice if it had an external antenna input but it... Read full review »

Not a TRUE clock/radio

byh12345t Dec 20, 2006
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Can't think of any.
Cons Too many for a 15 word maximum
Recommended it? No

This is not a true clock/radio. Granted! It is a clock ... and, it is a radio. But, the clock does not control the radio. In other words, don't expect the clock to turn on the radio at a pre-determined time. It ain't gonna happen.
When I purchased this, I was hoping I could set the radio to... Read full review »

Not perfect, but much better than the one I replaced

bydave2k May 25, 2006
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good sound, decent reception (at my house), attractive, high quality appearance
Cons Confusing controls, poor weather band reception, small display
Recommended it? Yes

I was concerned about buying this model since the reviews were somewhat mixed and it's not exactly cheap. I needed to replace my GE Spacemaker model 7-5295A radio with a non-functioning CD player (as noted in many reviews). As one GE reviewer noted, the under cabinet light is it's best feature... New gadget for the kitchen (Updated 2/3/05)

Pros Functions well and intuitive interface.
Cons Harder to install than expected because it is pretty heavy.
Recommended it? Yes

I have to confess that I am a Sony fan because I am an audio engineer by training and for the casual use category I think in terms of sound and built quality this brand is arguably one of the better bets.
I bought this for Christmas because it looked nicer than the more plastic-looking... Read full review »

Sleek device befitting a modern kitchen or laboratory

bybradzizmor Dec 17, 2004

Pros Intuitive to use. Good sound. Good looking.
Cons Easily retains finger smudges.
Recommended it? Yes

Bought this although there were no reviews available, but the Target people sold this to me over the CD543, which is reviewed here.

Appearance: Expensive looking, metal trim will fit in with the stainless steel kitchen loving crowd. I like it simply because it is slim and high-tech... Read full review »

How to modify for better reception

byallsetnow Jan 20, 2007
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Small profile, modern look, CD/radio features, easy installation, nice remote, digital...
Cons bad reception unless modified, speaker quality not quite Bose
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this radio having read the reviews here and knowing that it would have bad reception. I hoped to find a way to modify the radio to better the FM reception, and the good news is ... I did!

Here's what I did:
1. Removed the 22 screws on the top which attach the top plastic... Read full review »

A thing of the past

byjbs24 Feb 8, 2006
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Looks nice, functional.
Cons Some useless features, electronics buzz
Recommended it? No

We were looking for some tunes in the kitchen, and unfortunately no one has come out with an Ipod version or MP3-playing kitchen unit, or even a multi-CD player. We did see a few DVD players with LCD screens but we have a TV close to the kitchen and we would have had to run a cable to the kitchen... Read full review »

How to fix poor radio reception for 3 dollars.

byrooster123987 Oct 26, 2005
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Looks great, gets a radio off the counter. Digital timer is handy.
Cons - No external antenna port. - Reception varies wildly.
Recommended it? Yes

I have read many reviews on this kitchen radio, some glowing, some terrible. I purchased it for my wife who was happy to move a clunky boombox off the kitchen counter and regain that counter space. Following the instructions, I carefully positioned it where I wanted it prior to installation and... Read full review »

Mine works GREAT with GREAT reception

4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great reception, Nice looking
Cons CD drive tray acts a little cheap and flimsy, but no complaints so far.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this model despite the terrible reviews, because the other under cabinet brands I looked into got equally bad or even worse reviews. I figured I would find a way to fix/deal with the much-documented bad reception and electrical interference described by others.

I was pleasantly... Read full review »
