Sony MZ-NF610 Personal MiniDisc Player - Yep, I Have One of These
Preamble
I don't know how it came up, but back in October, my buddy Mike and I were filling Garrett in on the Sony Personal MiniDisc Player. As we sat there, explaining what it is, how it works, it suddenly occurred to me to post a review about it.
So, here ya go :)
What Is...

Sony MZ-NF610 MiniDisc Player - The Most Underrated Portable Audio Device
Finally, this is the moment you've all been waiting for. I have settled down to write a review on my new MiniDisc Player, the audio device that I chose to be the heir to my CD player. I ordered the player from www.xocute.com (my review of their site can be found if you click on the link).

Sony MZ-NF610 Personal MiniDisc Player/Recorder, High-speed Net MD? Walkman? w/Weather Bands
[Functionality]
Possibly one of the better all around performance md players for years to come, compared to the competition available for under $200 online and offline currently available for anyone willing to take the next step forward in advancing technology in the audio entertainment...

Excellent portable audio player despite restrictions
The MZ-NF610 is an excellent alternative to portable MP3 players because it's small, very stable, has superior sound quality, and it uses high quality minidisc media. Furthermore, the MZ-NF610 is one of Sony's newer portable MD players equipped with MDLP technology that allows for up to 5 hours of... Read full review »
Sony's NF-610 Minidisc Recorder - "Prosumer"?
I was introduced to the world of Minidiscs by a friend at my high school (both now graduated, :-D) and when he sold me his old player (MZ-R700), I immediately fell in love with the format. The highly flexible track system, the crisp sound quality, and the higher capacity smaller discs made it a... Read full review »
The best middle range NetMD Walkman.
I needed a replacement for my Sony MP3 CD player, the size was the problem with it. I like to go to everywhere with music on my ears and the CD player is kinda bulky for that purpose (that makes me wonder why I bought it in the first place). I started to look for the device with alike features, so... Read full review »
Good idea, poorly executed.
I've had this MD for awhile and I've found it more and more useless and more of a hassle than it's worth.
Description:
The Net MD Walkman copies music onto a minidisc, can fit about 4 albums on 1 minidisc at lowest quality setting. The walkman works like a CD player so that you can...

My Little Blue Buddy
I find it quite odd, that one of the greatest inventions in the 20th century has still not quite taken off! The minidisc. Remember when the CD first came out? It was the greatest, the sound quality was incredible, no more broken or mangled cassette tapes. Needless to say, we are strong into the CD... Read full review »
Better than MP3 players
First, I'd like to give a little background about minidiscs for those who haven't seen them.
I've been interested in minidisc players and recorders since I read a preview in Discover magazine back in the late '80s. The first time I actually saw one in use was in the movie "The Last Action...

Net MD Walkman MZ-NF610, Simple personal Media Device
I've owned the MZ-NF610 Minidisk for almost a year and a half now. Before buying this particular device I looked into some other portable music players (i.e. the Apple ipod) for a solution to my musical needs. I chose this Walkman over the ipod because of the storage capacity of the disks and the... Read full review »

Sony MZ-NF610 High Speed Net MD Walkman Recorder
Amazon.com Product Description The MZ-NF610 Net MD Walkman recorder provides unrivaled versatility, offering not only MD playback, but a special tuner for listening to AM-FM radio as well as TV and weather-band programming right from the remote control. The unit's SonicStage Jukebox software stores and manages digital music files, custom playlists, and music transfers, and bookmarking lets you program favorite songs in real time during playback. The MZ-NF610 offers high-speed transfer from a PC via a direct USB connection (up to 32x speed in LP4 mode) and can record more than five hours of music on one 80-minute minidisc (using LP4 mode). It also uses Sony's skip-free G-Protection technology, which eliminates or reduces skipping during many active uses. The MZ-NF610 is compatible with the RealOne music player and the pressplay.com online music subscription service. It plays back ATRAC3 files and supports multiple Internet audio formats, including MP3, WMA, and WAV. The Easy Skip group-folder function helps organize songs into albums or groups. Once the songs are transferred to the MZ-NF610, it's easy to skip from group to group. Besides the bundled SonicStage software and SonicStage simple burner application, the MZ-NF610 includes MoodLogic software, which goes beyond typical jukebox applications, letting you compile music by mood or tempo rather than simply by artists and song titles. MoodLogic corrects file information by identifying and retitling mislabeled tracks during ID3 tag cleaning. It also has a feature called Music Marker, which lets you "tag" music during playback. Once the device is reconnected to a PC, MoodLogic retrieves the marks, connects you to the Musiclub Web site, and provides information about the song and artist and links to download new tracks, purchase CDs, or discover similar artists. The unit provides up to 56 hours of continuous playback on one AA battery and comes with a rechargeable battery. Here's how you can use the included Sonic Stage Software to manage your music files:
