Do your homework on "epinions, com" before buying.

Pros This set after all,is a Sony, our family preferred brand of televisions and cameras.
Cons I feel a company I automatically trusted has let me down.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I'm satisfied with this Sony for the obvious reason of wanting a great HDTV picture. I'm just unhappy with its engineering in regards to the timer feature.
The picture quality is wonderful so far, and as it is a Sony, we bought with full confidence that it was still a top of the line in brand name and quality (just as the salesman stated).
I have two complaints and while one may be considered "petty", it was important to us and still is. When I asked regarding a programmed timer, we were NOT told the "timer" with this set would NOT work with satellite dish service (in our case, DirecTV). Forever, we have used our bedroom television as our alarm clock, waking up to CNN/Weather each morning. No longer. This set turns on to "C3" with snow and no sound. It seems this set and its timer has been designed for "cable" reception, not satellite. As we also depended on our set for a "security" system while we are away from home (on and off at a pre-set time)... and also as a companion for our pet... we have lost three important (to us) aspects of our television and will have to spend many years without it; with no way to correct or repair it. After a number of discussions with Sony support, it is a "nothing can be done" answer as none of their current HDTV sets have dish ready reception for this feature. (We'll have to bypass and connect to an antenna or go to a "cable company" connection to use it.) I was also told we would not be able to return this set to the store for an exchange. She must have meant because none of the existing sets can correct this, what I consider a design flaw.
To add insult to injury, while I usually check with "epinions.com" before making a major purchase, I now find we paid almost $1,000.00 more for this set than we would have if I had done our homework and compared prices. Stupid, stupid me.
