Sony KDF-E50A10 50 in. HDTV LCD Television: Why You Should Buy This Now!

byelmoebeesn May 4, 2006
37 Helpfuls 38 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros solid picture quality, comparatively affordable, Sony reputation, video game picture
Cons blacks look a bit off
Recommended it? Yes

I have long been impressed with televisions from Sony. Several years ago I had the regular 20 inch model when such a size was the norm. Shortly thereafter I went up to the 27 inch flat screen and then the whopping (in weight anyway) 32 inch flat screen projection model. Sony's are reliable in my... Read full review »

Sony KDF-E50A10 50 inch LCD HDTV - An affordable entry-level performer

byjkafer Feb 17, 2006
29 Helpfuls 30 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good picture quality, good amount of inputs, decent black level
Cons Red push without good calibration, no frills in the tuner/cable unit.
Recommended it? Yes

If you think HDTV is not in your immediate future due to price, there are several entry-level units by top manufacturers that might change your outlook. And lest you think these relatively inexpensive models are poorly made like the bargain TVs you might find at Wal-mart, I direct you to the Sony... Read full review »

Sleek Compact Bigscreen LCD Projection TV

Pros Compact size, light weight, sharp image, Digital HD tuner, multiple inputs including VGA...
Cons Blacks are less dark than plasma or CRT. Expensive bulb replacement. Slightly...
Recommended it? Yes

I'd been looking for a big TV to fit in a limited space for a while. When this model was released it was about the only 50" RPTV that would fit in my 52 x 34 inch space. On top of that it had a built in HD tuner for the same price as the previous year's HD monitor only models. When the set went on... Read full review »

Pros great picture. T.v. is lightweight
Cons "normal" fan noise is very loud Slow to warm up and shut down no PIP
Recommended it? Yes

I picked up this t.v. in January, 2006 as a reward for finally being finished with my basement. I feel I did a pretty decent job of price and equipment shopping and Consumer Reports also rated this television very high for being a good/great t.v. especially for the price.

Most of the... Read full review »

Very good bang for your buck.

Pros Price for performance, Sony quality, lots of inputs, footprint size
Cons image needs tweaking, no digital out for all inputs, no PIP or split screen
Recommended it? Yes

I spent a fair amount of time researching HDTV's and like many others, it came down to this and the Samsung HL-R5067W which are very similar in price. A thin footprint was not important to me so LCD and Plasma were not in the mix. (Although it appears LCD will probably end up being the winner in... Read full review »

Pros Great picture!!
Cons Bad speakers, no memory card input for sony cameras
Recommended it? Yes

I was very picky about choosing an LCD TV. I returned two before I settled on the Sony Wega (the A1050 predecessor). Unfortunately, my house was burglarized and they took that TV. So I went back and reviewed all the newer TV's and decided on this TV. I reviewed many AV forums and shopped around. I... Read full review »

Incredible picture quality -- looks like a flat panel LCD

Pros Astonishingly good image quality; affordable; good sound; stylish
Cons Kinda heavy
Recommended it? Yes

Over the weekend a friend invited me to come along to Best Buy to look at HDTVs as he was set on buying one. When we walked in our attention immediately turned to a large-screen TV set in a sofa-seating area. We both thought it was a flat-panel TV, because the image was both bright and sharp and... Ive read alot of reviews and would have probably bought the DLP technology if I hadnt been given the 300$ Sony TV stand that is made for this TV. Since I got the stand for free, and I found this TV on sale, I decided to go with a Sony instead of a Samsung.

Look: The TV looks clean and as... Read full review »

It's a good one

Pros Price, setup, maximizes space. HDMI interface for convenience.
Cons No pic-in-pic (who cares!)
Recommended it? Yes

As soon as this was announced by Sony, I knew this was the large screen for me, with a slim border, discrete speaker housing and narrow cabinet, it would fit perfectly into the space I originally set up for a 42" (so I get 50" instead). I was a bit concerned having not seen the set and recently... Read full review »
