The Bottom Line:
For same price get another player that can play different formats or you got to have more than one player to play all your multimedia stuff.
This player does not play anything except blu ray disks and store bought movie dvds. It does not play dvds you make on pc from your video camera, no picture cd, no other format supported even though it says it supports other formats but read the fine print and it says none of them may play. I believe this is because of Sony being super paranoid with copy protection. I got this to play my hd dvds I made from my video camera and it refuses to play the video dvds I made. Also made slide show of still pictures and refused to play that. I have 3 other dvd players and they play everything fine no problem. It also won't play music dvd, dvd ram, etc., too many to mention here. The manual gives all kinds of excuses why it won't play all the other formats.
Loading is slow also and just sits there for about 1-2 minutes or more loading the disk. Don't know why loading takes so long. I assume this is first generation Blu Ray. You would need another dvd player to play other dvd disks if you get this one. For $250 I rate this as poor value and the more reason why I try to stay away from Sony products as Sony is over priced and limited features. Not many to choose from when I bought this and only had the Panasonic which I should have got instead because I found out that it plays everything that the Sony doesn't. Blu Ray picture and audio good of course.
