Excellent remote for the price

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend it for anyone looking for a good value on a learning remote. A great deal for anyone not wanting to remote for pricing in the 3 digits
I decided to purchase this remote after deciding I didn't want to spend $100-200 for a Logitech Harmony. All in all, it has turned out to be an excellent remote for the price.
After reading other reviews, I didn't even bother to use the built in codes. I programmed all the functions for every remote through the learning function which is a bit of a pain, but you only have to do it once. The main downfall to this remote is the limited selection of buttons that you have to choose from. There are really no buttons aimed designed for a DVR despite having instructions and codes for Tivo and others; but Sony did think that a Digital/Analog button was one that would be used by the widest range of customers. Because of that, you CAN program in most any function from your old remote, but you'll have to keep some sort of cheat-sheet handy to figure out what is mapped to what. And you are limited by the # of available buttons, which is low. As some other reviews have pointed out, the button layout is less than ideal, and the control does not have a very ergonomic feel. It does not have a backlight, but I imagine that the lack of one helps increase battery life.
With all that said, for under $25 shipped, I am fairly confident that I couldn't have found a better learning remote for less than 3 times the price.
