Sevendust: The Right Place at the Right Time

bylambchops Feb 21, 2006

Pros A few good songs, Witherspoon's voice...
Cons Overall bland album, a lot of filler...
Recommended it? No

The late 1990s were a time of musical turmoil. The end of the brooding "grunge" movement had effectively stunted rock and roll. Most of the acts that popped up in the years immediately subsequent tried to do the same thing, but whilst smiling and donning neatly coiffed hair. There was no question... Read full review »

Sevendust Debuts With Force (Black History Month W/O)

byPacManY2J Feb 24, 2003

Pros Aggressive, original music with interesting lyrics
Cons Could use some more standouts
Recommended it? Yes

In my opinion, the overall purpose of Black History Month is to take time to remember and honor the achievements of blacks throughout history while recognizing that we are all equal, which is what people such as Martin Luther King, Jr. fought so hard for. I'm glad to see that the efforts of Rosa... Read full review »

Sevendust introduces us to the glory of volume

bypunkrawka Jun 30, 2003

Pros "Black" and "Bitch"; other moments of deep promise
Cons Repetition thrives on a slightly too-short album
Recommended it? Yes

The year: 1997.
The state of all things "nĂ¼": The prefix has not yet been misused.

The need: Ballsy, mainstream-edged hard rock without the trappings of rap.
The teaser of a solution: Sevendust.

That's right, Sevendust. The group of southern Florida rockers came... Read full review »

Sevendust: Not The Quality Debut Everyone Seems To Think It Is

byMattA75 Sep 24, 2003

Pros Lejon's voice, 1 unbelievable song, 3-4 other good songs
Cons too repetitive in sound and structure
Recommended it? Yes

Out of all the nu-metal bands that I came to be a fan of around 1997/1998, there are only two that still generate any type of excitement in my veins. The first is Tool, probably the pre-eminent rock band of our time, a band so majestically talented that they make a band like Linkin Park sound... Read full review »

Intensity and Originality debuts during "year of the Bizkit"

Pros Many great tracks, unbelievable instrumentals, and soulful vocals
Cons Track order could use some tweaking, but who cares about that - NOT ME

MY FIRST REVIEW AS AN ADVISOR AND WHAT DO I DO ? -- review an old CD.... does that just scream with bathos?

The musical year of 1997 reaked of dullness for the metal scene - well, until Atlanta's Sevendust bombarded airwaves with the two most intense radio singles of the year and one hell... Read full review »

Pros good music, worth the money, entertaining show
Cons opening for Creed
Recommended it? Yes

The only word that comes to my mind when I think of the group Sevendust is unbelievable. I just went to a show a few weeks ago at the Mullins center at Umass Amherst. To say the least, they stole the show from Creed. They had everybody off of their seat rocking their heads along with Sevendust.

Maybe the best debut album of the 90's

bymarkendust90 Oct 9, 2004
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Hard rocking, soulful and GUITAR SOLOS!
Cons only has 11 songs and low-fi production but other than that, NADA!
Recommended it? Yes

1997 saw the rise of what would be the one of rising stars of the late 90's heavy metal scene. Some people have criticised this album alot. There is nothing bad about it except for the low-fi production but it contains some of Sevendust's best tunes ever. It might sound a bit different than their... Read full review »

Pros Great radio singles, excellently done melodic hard rock songs.
Cons None.
Recommended it? Yes

Beginning as five drinking buddies who just happened to like playing music together, the members of the band known today as Sevendust had very little in mind except paying the bills, playing a show in front of their friends, and hanging out with all of them after the show. It was my freshman year in college when this cd came out. I had read a little something of this group and was hesitant to buy it, but i thought "ohh what the hell". to my surprise, it was an absolutely incredible cd. Sevendust was put on the map in a matter of months. All of my friends were asking... Read full review »

Pros Amazing debut with awesome song-writing and great dynamics
Cons My neck after head-banging non-stop through the entire album!
Recommended it? Yes

After hearing these guys on the Ozzfest '97 CD, I saw them in concert with Coal Chamber, and decided to get the cd. It is now one of my favorites. Whether belting out gripping choruses with subtle, energizing chord changes and harmonizations, or playing the same thing more softly to display the... Read full review »
