I can see clearer now that DLP is here!

byjooney Dec 15, 2004
Pros great color and clarity, perfect size, styling, great sound.
Cons pricey replacement bulb (recommended warranty!), has a fan to keep the TV from over-heating.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This TV is Wonderful!...perfect size, and features. I love HDTV on this TV. Glad I chose it!
After having our old 32 inch Philips TV die we had to start seeking out a new TV. We had considered getting a 36" Sony WEGA flat with HDTV, but it would have cost about $1800.00. And it weighed around 250 pounds which is too heavy for 1 person to lift so it would be stuck staying where it is put unless you can call friends over constantly when you want to rearrange you living room! After deciding no on this TV we started looking at other options. We really like the Sony LCD Projection, but after seeing them side by side we opted for the Samsung for many reasons.

The first reason was the size. Not only was the Samsung a larger screen, but it did not have a lot of extra silver around it (ie. speakers, and frame). It also was more square than the Sony. Meaning the actual screen wasn't stretched as much.

The second reason was it only weighed 69.4 lbs.

And the third was price. They had an open box at Circuit City for $1999.99. The boxed TV was on sale for $2699. SO this was a huge savings!

The TV had all the features we wanted. Below I have listed all the features & specifications:

I know you are all probably wondering what exactly is DLP technology!

DLP technology is a revolutionary display solution that uses an optical semiconductor (as seen above) to manipulate light in a digital fashion. It has proven to be dependable with more than 1 million systems shipped since 1996.
At the heart for the Samsung DLP projection system is an optical semiconductor known as the Dgital Micromirror Device, or DMD chip.

The DMD chip is one of the world's most sophisticated light switch. It contains a rectangular array of up to 1.3 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors; each of which measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair and corresponds to one pixel in a projected image.

An all-digital image is projected on to a screen When a DMD chip is coordinated with digital video or graphic signals, a light source and a projection lens through its mirrors. The DMD along with the sophisticated electronics that surround it are called Digital Light Processing Technology.

So after deciding on this TV and purchasing it, we had it delivered. 9 days after having it in our home it turned itself off and back on and was flashing the lamp light on the TV. We had no picture, but we did have sound. So we made the decision to return the TV. While we were looking for another TV we kept going back to this TV. We really like everything about it! So while at Circuit City we decided to exchange the broken one for a new one. The nice people at Circuit City gave us a brand new one in the box for the same price as the open box because of our problem.

We have since had this TV for 3 weeks and are very pleased with our purchase. The only down-side we see is that not all channels are available in HDTV!!

I hope this helps you with your purchase!

I just wanted to add some more info here. We have had the TV now for 3 months and are still just as happy with our purchase...I know you always read these and wonder well they are happy now, but what about down the road...So I will be adding to this regularly to let you know of any problems we might have!

Hi Everyone...It is March 24th, 2005 and we are even more pleased with our purchase. We love the HBO series Carnivale, and watching it on this TV in HD is the best experience anyone could have! Still very happy with our purchase and we have had no problems with our TV!
