The Bottom Line:
Buy one if the price is right and the unit is new. It will not dissappoint. Show it off-it's unlike any other in it's class.
I guess it's about a year, or closing in, on the purchase of this unit. I checked a lot of reviews when it was first introduced and the consensus was fabulous BUT DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE! One of the reviews indicated poor up-conversion on standard DVD's. I dis-agree -at least when competing with my Panasonic and Sony progressive scan. It's an absolute keeper with the basic four widgets Blockbuster (which I bailed out of), Netflix (which I can't stop watching), Pandora (super), and of course YouTube. Took a while to catch onto the interface for YouTube but after some practice it's easy to navigate the site. If I had to pick what I don't like it would be the screensaver that overshadows Pandora (hiding the progress bar and history)and the inability to bypass a loaded DVD in order to enjoy the widgets. [The solution is not to have a DVD loaded in the tray.] I have mounted the base unit about 25ft from my router and it's quite out of view-so I had to use a IR Remote Extender kit which allows me to control it head on with the flat panel. I fear the day I hit upgrade when the option appears since ENTER is the biggest button on the remote-but I guess I can power it down before it downloads and reboot from the start, I hope. I suspect the glitch is what prompted Samsung to create a replacement model, however not as attractive. If purchased I recommend not buying a 'second'. It must be fresh in the box. The problems with the upgrade are so variable in nature it's pointless to list them. The things that matters the most is it's ability to load faster than the Playstations, The crispness of the picture and the easy to use colorful layout of the remote. If I accidently hit upgrade, and it quits, I'd be on the hunt for the same one....especially if the price is deeply discounted.
