Reliable But Has Significant Design Limitations

Pros 1)Ease of use 2)PS2 keyboard interface
Cons 1) No component inputs 2) Link cable too short
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great product for most users, but not advanced.
When I bought my original unit 5 years ago, I didn't mind the fact that progressive scanning was absent in the package. I also did not mind the 12 character limit on disc titles too much. I considered these both to be reasonable sacrifices for the whopping 301 disc capacity.
Recently I bought a second unit to handle my burgeoning DVD collection. That's when I became aware of what I consider some fairly severe design issues. For starters, the supplied link cable [a seemingly standard mini stereo M-M]is extremely short. I tried replacing it with a longer one and the units did not recognize each other. In practical terms, this means you must locate one unit on top of the other. I have adjacent cabinets on either side of my 65" TV and wanted one on either side. No go with this unit!
Also, once you connect the units you can no longer use component video since Pioneer thoughtlessly neglected to include component inputs. This is a major omission for a $450.00 player.
Aside from these shortcomings, I have been happy with this product. It is very reliable and easy to use. To date, I have not found a nicer overall player.
