not a good decision
Pros
great image and sound when it works
Cons
rigged with continuous firmware bugs, very slow
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Not recommended because Pioneer is not able to come up with a decent firmware. Just look at the multiple updates history for their BluRays
I bought this unit thinking that I will get the best on the market for this price ... but I was totally wrong. I passed through two units because I just wanted to give a chance to this model. I just want to mention that I performed the test who revealed the glitches at dealer's site and they come with the same bad results so it wasn't the way I've got the unit hooked up. As well, the Pioneer Electronics site is totally useless: there is no way to contact by e-mail someone knowledgeable and the technician I was talking by phone seemed completely blank thus unusable. My problem was that I bought the player with the version 1.08 loaded: in this case, as Pioneer states, if I tried to switch the video out from HDMI to S-Video, the unit will freeze so it needed to be unplugged. After upgrade (version 1.25a) which solved this problem, a even worse one occurred: if a BluRay disc was played and for whatever reason you will turn the unit off, when turned back on, it will resume without sound. This doesn't apply to DVD discs. The only way to get back the sound for the BluRay would be hard resetting the unit (stop power) which is totally annoying. So finally, I switched to a way more stable unit, Panasonic BD-55. You just have to know that my other DVD players in house are just Pioneer so I'm not a hater, but this time, they didn't get it right. It's ridiculous to spend this amount of money for something that plainly don't work as it should, so I will stick from now with the newly discovered brand.
