The Bottom Line:
This is a good DECT phone with some stingy features, especially in the answering machine.
I bought this phone because DECT (Digital Enhanced [formerly European] Cordless Telecommunications) operates at 1.9 GHz, which avoids interfering with my 5.8 GHz phone and 2.4 GHz wireless computer network. (I tried some 900 MHz phones, but nobody seems to make a clear, reliable 900 MHz phone anymore.)
Walk-around range is plenty for my house. About the same as my Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone.
Callers can hear me much better than they could on my most recent (Uniden) 900 MHz phone. Volume on my end is adequate. The speaker phone seems to work fine.
So the main functions of the phone work well.
On the minus side, the answering machine let me down. It does not record the time and date of incoming messages. (If you have caller id., you can review the times in the incoming call log on the handset and try to figure out when the message arrived, I guess.) The outgoing message (greeting) sounds muddy and garbled. Incoming messages are somewhat clearer. Several attempts to record the outgoing message are required because of strange pops introduced at the beginning of the message. I find some of the control buttons hard to read.
As for the handset, the buttons feel fine, but they're not backlit. The small handset is a little less comfortable to hold than a full sized handset, and it can't be propped up by a shoulder. The display is OK, albeit a little hard to read. You can give your handset a name which is displayed when the phone is idle, but it's only 8 characters -- not enough to display your complete phone number for the convenience of visitors. There is a mute (hold) feature. A louder ringer would be helpful.
It would be nice to be able to pick up other handsets during a call and just join in, but you have to use the intercom features and conference the other handsets into the call.
The phone book can't be transferred to other handsets.
