I bought one of these machines from Circuit City in June 2003. Paid about $ 270. It was in close competition with a comparably-priced recorder (DVD-R/-RW) from Panasonic.

Keep Clear of This Expensive Unreliable Philips Disaster!
When I got this recorder 2 years ago for $700 I was so excited. It had component inputs, firewire, audio meter and so on. Over time my love affair went very sour and the recorder divorced me.
