A Beautiful and Reliable Phone with a Great Receiption

Pros color screen, answering machine, nice design, digital phone book
Cons price
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great design and look, clarity of sound, and great answering machine feature
Introduction

I had a Uniden 5.8 GHZ with 2 lines for 3 years and one day it decided to quit working. We thought the battery was dead and we replaced the battery and it didn't work, so we had to buy a new wireless phone.

Before we bought the Panasonic KX-TGA820A phone, we had the 5.8 Uniden that broke in 2007, before we owned the Uniden we had 2.4 GHZ V-TEC that broke within 5 months of use. At least the 5.8 GHZ lasted for 3 years. It makes me wonder if Uniden and V-TEC are reliable brands.

I went to Target to shop around and I was standing there in front of the phone section to look around at different phone for at least an hour to make sure that I will buy a good one this time. Then I saw the Panasonic KX-TGA820A series.

Why did I buy it?

The Panasonic KX-TGA820A is very expensive. I bought it for $95 for the 2 sets. I saw a very nice General Electric red slim phone which looks very pretty, but the GE phone doesn't come with an answering machine and it doesn't have color screen. The design of the Panasonic phone is a lot better! It is a beautiful phone :) I have small hands and when I hold the phone, it really feels good on my hand, because it is very light, it is not bulky, the round shape in the back of the phone fits on your hand and the material that Panasonic used to build this phone is very nice.

The Panasonic KX-TGA820A looks very sharp! It does have color screen which is very unusual and it comes with built-in answering machine, speaker phone, caller-ID and intercom. So I decided to buy the Panasonic instead of GE. Before I decided to buy the phone, there was another Panasonic phone with color screens and an Antenna.

I hate the antenna that sticks out on a wireless phone, because if you drop the phone, the antenna can break easily! I hate it. I used to have 900 MHZ AT&T phone with an antenna and I had to pull the antenna out when I wanted to talk and push it back in when I was done talking. It was bad! The Panasonic KX-TGA820A doesn't have an antenna that is sticking out of the phone.

If you look at the photo, you'll notice that the phone base is not that big. That's awesome because the phone doesn't take so much space on my work desk.

The phone is very easy to install. You just have to install the batteries that come with the phone, charge the battery as being instructed in the manual and as soon as you plug the phone cable and the power cable, the phone works right out of the box. It doesn't take a genius to install this phone.

The Back Light Feature

The phone has back light, woo hoo! Have you ever tried to make an emergency phone call in the middle of the night and it is dark then the phone doesn't have a back light? It is very annoying because you have to get up and walk to the light switch, turn on the light.

Sometimes you don't feel like walking to the light switch and you have to wake your husband or wife and ask him/her to turn on the light "Honey, could you please turn the light for me?" Now you don't have to ask your spouse anymore to turn on the light because this Panasonic phone has the back light feature, as soon as you take the phone out of its base, the back light of the phone lits automatically to let you see the number on the keypad.

How can I know where the location of phone when it is dark? Well the color screen of the phone is always on and it is pretty bright, so you will be able to tell where the phone is!

Battery Life

Now this is the part that impresses me the most. Most wireless the life of the battery is not that long. I hate it when I have a long conversation and the phone beeps because it wanted to be recharged! This phone has a long battery life after you recharge it.

My Experience and Reliability

I own the phone since August, 2007 and the phone hasn't given me any problem. The reception of the phone is awesome! It is so clear!

What I Love About the Phone

One thing that I love the most about this phone is the built-in phone book and the answering machine. I don't have to walk to the main base of the wireless phone to check a voicemail. I can use either phone set to check the voicemail. There is a menu button where it let you listen and delete messages straight from your phone, instead of going to the answering machine. The phone is so pretty and it makes our friends jealous when they look at it. The color screen looks very futuristic.

I have to tell you about the ring tone, there are a lot of rings tones that come with the phone, it is very easy to change the ring tone, and to control the volume of the ring from an incoming call. When you hold the phone, it feels very nice and smooth. I just love holding the phone. The speaker phone sound quality is superb! It does have built-in backlight, so if you are trying to dial a phone number in the dark, the backlight comes out, so you can see the numbers on the keypad.

What do I hate about the phone?

So far I don't have any complaints yet about the phone. It's been almost 8 months now that we own this phone and we still love it. Maybe the biggest complaint that I have is the price, it costs $95, but with the features that come with it, it is worth it.

With any wireless phone, you have to realize that the phone only works when there is electricity, so when the power is out, your phone will be out of commission. My suggestion to you is, always have a spare cheap phone that doesn't require the usage of electricity power for an emergency situation. The cheap phone usually only costs $8.99 in Walmart or Target, but it is worth having in the house, it may save the life of someone you care about. The same principal like having a condom around, it is better to have it when you need it than when you need it but you don't have it.

In conclusion

The Panasonic KX-TGA820A is a great phone because it does have a lot of features such as a built-in answering machine, color screen, intercom, large digital phone book storage, and speaker phone. I really recommend you to buy it if you want to replace you old phone. Thank you for reading my review, I hope this review is very helpful to help you make a better decision before you buy this phone.
