PT-50LCX63.... 2/8/04 WOW!
Pros
Great Picture, color accuracy, sleek design, easy setup, At $2500 was hard to say no!!!!
Cons
Usless and pricey oem stand. Get a 3rd party stand instead
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
The Panasonic actually looked better than the Sony and Hitachi side by side...Price was the deciding factor ($800 savings!) 3rd party stand had the room for my components
Just picked up a PT-50LCX63. It was being closed out at Sears for $2500....so I used the matching policy at Circuit city and got a great deal. I use an external upconverter/line doubler that does 720p and 1080i from just about any source...simply beautiful on this set. I replaced a 50" Pioneer rear Prog HDTV, and in its day it too was a beauty....but cannot compare to the Panny. Was going to go after the new Wega but they are hard to get and very hard to get a good price on....then I read about all the trouble with them so I went for the Panasonic. (BTW my upconverter/doubler will also do 1080P when it comes out later this year...I always buy 1 technology behind to let the first guys suffer the initial defects and to get a better price when they begin to be displaced.
Fot the Generation 1 DLP, they can keep it! Gen II and soon gen III should be quite a bit better but also terribly expensive! When I bought the Pioneer 50" HDTV it was almost $4000! It got plenty of use and it will wind up in another room
All I can say, is that IMHO the PT-50LCX63 from Panasonic kicks some serious booty.Great color, bright picture, great black levels etc. It will take me quite a while to get it tuned in once break in is over....lots of goodies on it to discover! My main source is a 4DTV digital BUD (Big ugly dish) followed by a Philips Q50 DVD with Farouda processing (the external doubler does it better though)
BTW I can see maybe 10 dead pixels when with in a foot or so of the set, but they just blend in from my 10 ft viewing distance. I got a 3 year bumper to bumper ext warantee just in case $299( LARGE SCREEN tv'S ARE THE ONLY PRODUCTS I WILL BUY AN EXTENDED WARANTEE ON. Once had an old Mits go south about a month before the ext waranty expired...they had no parts anymore and wound up replacing it with a current model! I finally won one! Figured that if just the light went bad, that would eat up the $300 so I guess it was money well spent. Wish the cheap manufacturers would put some beef in their warantees...these days,.... they must not believe in the quality of their mdse and oem warantees really cover nothing! I for one would pay more for the set if the warrantee was better. Instead Circuit City and the like get the $$ and no matter where i move...it will be honored.
