After A Year

Pros Good quality, easy to set up and use.
Cons Needs low ambient light for best visual experience. Bulbs are quite expensive.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  You will enjoy this television. I do recommend it. However, with the market for wide screen HDTV becoming more competitive, shop for sales.
I purchased the PT-43LC14 on March 15, 2005. For ten and a half months it has been a great television. Today the lamp exploded. Designed life on the lamp is supposed to be 6000 hours. By my math, we have used less than half of that. The replacement cost for the lamp is $300. We did purchase an extended warranty with the TV, which cost us $400. Up until now, I wondered if I would ever see any return on that investment. Now, having learned that some of the bulbs are going early and that the replacement is so high, I would highly recommend to anyone purchasing this television to buy the extended warranty as well. Two light bulbs replaced will justify the cost. At this rate, we will use four or more in that five year warranty period.

The sound and picture quality of the television are good. When the room is illuminated with sunshine from the windows, darker images on the screen lose significant contrast. In lower light this is much less of a problem, but will always be a bit of an issue inherent to rear projection LCD technology.

A great feature of this television is the multiple inputs. You can attach multiple tuners, DVD's VHS, or other inputs, and have them all on at once if desired, then do split screens or go from one input to the next at the press of a button on the remote.

It is a really nice television, but for $2k, I do wish at times that I had held out for plasma or other newer technologies.
