The Bottom Line:
For the price ($300) this is a good system for the average movie buff. It does a good job at what it is supposed to do.
I bought this Panasonic home-theater-in-a-box system about a month ago and I am happy with it so far. The initial set up was fairly easy and took about 45 minutes. The physical looks of the system are very unique. The sleek front Left and Right speakers are a tower design which puts the drivers at ear level when you are seated, a big advantage in my book. The center channel speaker puts out a crisp mid range sound. The rear surround set is also good sounding. All speakers come with mounting holes for any desired hanging or special placement. The sub looked a little questionable to me at first, it is basically a small box with a single 6 1/2 inch front firing speaker and a medium sized bass reflex port. It sounds "okay" at best, but don't forget, the price of this entire unit is under $300.
I have two compliants about this otherwise good system. The first is the overcomplicated remote. This system takes a good amount of tweaking to get it set up properly, and of course, everything is buried in on-screen menus that are selected using the remote. The second compliant is the tiny little speaker cables provided. It is almost the size of a bread twist, or garbage bag twist. Very disappointing to see Panasonic skimp in this area. When I upgraded the wire to a better gauge, I could not change out the sub wire due to it not having connection points, the wire actually goes into the back of the enclosure.
Another tidbit, the system doesn't seem to have a cooling fan. After any extended use (2 hours plus) the top and side of the main unit is rather hot. Heat usually destroys electronics over time. I hope this isn't an issue.
Overall, the system is good for the price. After a little tweaking of the many sound options (via the remote), the system sounds pretty darn good. You have to remember this cost under $300
