Decent camera for the $$

Pros Fairly easy to use, LONG telephoto
Cons LONG telephoto can cause a bit of blurriness
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Zoom and baterry life is great. Camera shake with the long zoom is NOT good and detracts. Color rendition is good. I'd say three to three and one-half stars.
The camera is reasonably priced. Image quality is good, the battery is durable (long life) and the zoom is good. It does lack image stabilization.

Its best feature is the 10X lens. This also is its detriment as the camera has no image stabilization which can result with blurry pictures in anything less than bright sunlight. You get camera shake with this long zoom and longer shutter times. You need to work with a very short shutter speed. Unfortunately, its fastest shutter time is only 1/1000 second. Some of the advanced cameras go down to 1/4000 second.

Image quality of this camera is more than acceptable. It also includes a remote which is more than useful if you like this feature. It also allows the user to store 4 customized scene modes.

Many photographers like using the LCD. It is a large 2.5 inch which is a nice size. However, it does suck down battery power so I suggest using the viewfinder to save power. I've used rechargeable and Ultra batteries (it uses 4 of them) in it. The Ultra batteries kept the camera going for quite a while, it can take you through some serious photography over a vacation. If you are using rechargeable batteries, have an extra set (or two) as they don't last as long as the Ultras.

I've obtained some nice enlargements which were very clear with the 6 megapixels that it has. There are many different modes (21 of them!). One that is quite nice is the museum which shuts off sound an flash and another one that goes behind glass. You have to scroll through a list to get to these functions. That is a bit of a pain but once you get used to this feature it is nice, especially if you are a museum (or flash is not permitted at church events) goer. However, you can save a few features which will help to simplify your photography duties.

The lens becomes 3.5 inches long when turned on. Despite the bulk, this camera is not that heavy, less than a pound. It is easy to h old with a nice wide grip. It is a simple operation to take a picture, work with the zoom lens, etc. However, you do need the other hand to look at the on-screen menu. The controls are well designed and easy to access.

Color was good in the photos. When I go into Photoshop, it holds the rendition and doesn't need to make adjustments. There are manual controls for those of you are more serious, but for the most part you'll like the many beginner features which make it a fairly user friendly camera. If you're doing some real distance photography with the telephoto, you may wish to invest in a tripod to avoid the blurriness.
