The Bottom Line:   Ovi Files is a utility to access files on your computer from the phone!!! worth the money if you are on a budget and need a smartphone.
First, it is a Nokia. Now that's out of the way, there are some things that are fantastic and some are not and some are downright stupid.

The phone is compact enough to pass on as a candycane phone that Nokia has been making for centuries. The steel border is cool. This is not a 3G phone so internet is obviously slow EDGE. Works fine with AT&T network. Should be the same for TMo and any other GSM Network since it is a quad band phone.
I have set up to retrieve emails from Yahoo and Gmail although Yahoo is a bit weird in that it does not get the complete email at most times and I have to connect again to retrieve. I think it is Yahoo servers that are a problem since it is not a problem with Gmail.
On the Browser front, it is really good in rendering the webpage except that Flash does not work. That sucks.
You can connect to Exchange mailboxes and get a free Ovi account for synchronizing.
Speaking of Ovi, Nokia's store, you get a truckload of free and useless as well as a few useful applications. Surprisingly, I have not found a good Sudoku app though.
Free Ovi Maps is cool for almost many countries that you can download. First you get the map updater and then the map downloader.

Plays mp3s like a charm although when you transfer, you have to go to the mp3 collection and refresh list coz otherwise you don't see them unless you restart. That sucks.

Plays videos good although for some reason it stretches all videos instead of normal mode.

Podcast is cool, you can download lots of podcasts.

FM Tuner is not very strong but works fine.

Nokia S60 is a popular OS, so there are many apps for it.

It does not have a GPS chip, so you will have to buy a GPS receiver /dongle to use via bluetooth.

Comes with a 4GB microSD card which is a good starter but if you find a cheaper 16GB one, go for it.

Although the memory card is easy to remove from the side, the SIM Card is a pain to remove.

The camera has a good flash and there is an old app that uses the flash as a torch. Really really powerful torch for the size.

Wifi is pretty neat.

And about the stupid things, which phone company does not put the alphabets on the phone dialer? the phone dialer is just numbers!!! Holy moly, so if you have to dial 1800-thissucks, good luck.
