The Bottom Line:
I love the Coolpix 2200. I think its perfect for a novice photographer.
I still have problems regulating the thermostat in our home, I am minimally adept at dealing with my cell phone, minimally. I actually learned to scroll down to get a number, no small achievement for someone like me. I am an artist, I am not wired to do anything mathematical or mechanical. I learned to use a computer after much, much carrying on, ditto these new fangled digital cameras. Hey, I could draw you a picture who needs a camera?
Well, between becoming computer friendly and dabbling on Ebay I found a niche and HAD to have a camera. I now rely heavily on my Nikon Coolpix 2200 Digital Camera.
I went thru my first digital camera in no time, I was at the beach and put it in my plastic mesh carry bag above the water line. Can you figure out the next scene? The water rushed up, soaked the basket and soaked the camera. Sort of reminded me of that Burt Lancaster love scene. The camera drowned of course, and I was left with an intense sense of panic. How would I do Ebay without a camera?
Luckily, my sister is equally as mechanically challenged and offered me her NIKON Coolpix 2200 Digital Camera since she had yet to take it out of it's box. I was thrilled.
The NIKON Coolpix 2200 Digital Camera has 2.0 Megapixels,(good for making prints 4 x 6 prints) 3X Optical Zoom ( pictures from 9'-12'away) and 10X Digital Zoom. 8 easy to use modes, each with a menu and Internal Memory. It uses a stamp sized digital card. It can store your pictures on this. You can take photos even when the card isn't in the camera with Internal Memory. You can snap images, zoom, center and edit after a picture is taken. You can also set up and preview to check your photos. You can use Auto Flash or turn this off depending on your needs. I keep my flash on most of the time.
The Nikon Coolpix 2200 comes with photo software an English/Spanish manual, USB cable, 2 AA batteries and a wrist strap. I use the batteries the rest stays in the box. I should use the wrist strap since I 've dropped this camera. Luckily, it survived hitting a tile floor. That alone would give it a high score in my book. It's durable!!!
Some of the modes the NIKON Coolpix 2200 offers are scene, picture, movie, sports and portrait. Sports will focus automatically. Speaking of sports a problem I find when shooting pictures outdoors, is the glare. In full sun you can't see what you're tring to take a photo of or view it well afterwards. I don't know what the usual solution is in other cameras but this is an issue with this one.
Modes each have menus. Some available options are Portrait: couples, close up figure, left or right single person. There is night portrait as well. Sports can be composite or spectator. With Scenes you can opt for party indoors, night landscape, back light, snow, beach, sunset, dusk/dawn and your movie option gives you a 620, 32 or 16 choice. For a small, affordable camera this is quite a selection.
The Nikon COolpix 2200 is compact. I carry the Nikon Coolpix 2200 in my pocketbook a lot of the time and this can throw your mode setting off. The Nikon Coolpix 2200 measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2".
There is a video aspect but I've never used the video aspect, as I said I can only handle so much information and I'm a slow learner. It has no sound and is in Quick Time.
We make prints from photos on the computer (we meaning hubby) and the quality is good. The NIKON Coolpix 2200 offers a blurry photo option, if the photo is blurry a little notice pops up letting you know your photo is blurry and offering you the option to delete. The view screen on the NIKON Coolpix 2200 is very small so often you would not be able to tell if your picture is blurry, otherwise until it was too late. This is a great feature and allows you to reshoot your subject while you still are in the moment rather than miss a good photo of your subject.
As far as storing your photos rather than storing them in your camera there are several wonderful photo sights on line that you can store your photos with. The sights offer albums, as well as prints and many more features. Its also suggested you download them to a file on your computer. The Nikon Coolpix 2200 does store an amazing amount of photos in its memory.
The Nikon Coolpix 2200 tell you when the battery is exhausted. I seem to get quite a long life out of my batteries. It takes double AA's and you can use regular Double AA's or rechargables. I recommend getting good quality batteries. When I used a cheaper version they died very quickly.
I've heard a lot of talk about shutter lag with digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix 2200 has a 2 second lag time as, which works out well for me but is something you need to be aware of when shooting a picture. A good piece of information when you're dealing with lag time is to press your photo button half way down before you're ready to shoot. This gives you Nikon Coolpix 2200 time for it's computer to adjust for light and focus before snapping the picture. This works well for kids sports games and parties etc when there is a lot of action. That way you are more likely to capture the moment. You can also count 1,2 click and THEN say "Smile" for still shots.
The Nikon Coolpix 2200 is a very good camera for the money.
It has a 2 year warranty. So far, I haven't had to think about this. I no longer leave my beach basket sitting around on the beach unattended.
