Neodigits Helios H4000 DVD Player

You will not make it through a single DVD movie w/out wanting to smash this unit in half against your forehead.

[GOOD] **HD 1080p/1080i/720p over component (** below in "BAD" section)

[BAD] overheats within 30 hr / 45 minutes (in cool basement) causing color "smearing"
[BAD] hot to the touch when "off"??
[BAD] turns on by itself
[BAD] subtitles appear on screen even when disabled (firmware fix?)
[BAD] pausing playback causes audio / video out of sync upon resume- only fix is to STOP STOP forcing manual search of last playback point (firmware fix?)
[BAD] max FF and RW speeds are ridiculous SLOW
[BAD] playback clock on front display is erratic hinting instability and software problems
[BAD] control buttons on TOP of unit??
[BAD] LOOOOOOOONG startup times... LOAD THE DVD ALREADY!
[BAD] display errors- "LOADING" sometimes means it's /thinking/ about loading, sometimes it means it's actually loading... just push [PLAY] repeatedly for 10 or so seconds... GAWD
[BAD] EJECT button on unit ejects when it WANTS to and no sooner
[BAD] awful remote ergonomics- no you are NOT mentally challenged, the buttons are angled in such a way to make you /think/ you are mentally challenged
[BAD] scrunched left side of 4:3 image in 4:3 playback
[BAD] tv unable to stretch 4:3 image to fill screen in FULL mode, scrunched left side of 4:3 image in NORMAL mode
[BAD] black bars on ALL 4 SIDES during playback of letterbox content on letterbox tv
[BAD] ** = you won't get to enjoy it... too many glitches and flaws that interrupt your viewing pleasure

Whatever signal this Helios H4000 is sending to my tv, it isn't a standard one that tv's like or recognize. I tested this H4000 on 3 tv's using 4 other DVD players to isolate problems to the Helios => the H4000 is very flawed.

You should not buy this product.
