Hideaway drive- ready to stack!
The LaCie 500GB USB 2.0 drive is built with no pretensions for what it is- it is a storage device. And a storage device is more useful if it is more flexible, takes up less space, and doesn't prohibit options. No Bargain
It seemed like a good deal - 500 GB (well, 465 GB actually but you know how these things work) for $119.99 CDN as a 'Door Crasher' at FutureShop - I was looking for a back-up system so I grabbed one.

Pretty good so far.
I purchased this hard drive from Amazon.com about 2 months ago. It was the cheapest 500 gigabyte hard drive that you could buy. I am pretty happy with it so far, it is quick and it has sufficient storage for my needs. It is supposed to be a 500Gig hard drive, but it comes out of the box at 465Gigs... Read full review »
Semi-annoying hum, but otherwise solid
I received the unit a little less than a week ago. If you want to use it for XP/Vista only you'll probably want to format for NTFS. The difference from the FAT32 and NTFS is that you can put files >4GB on NTFS - Useful if you want to use it to back your DVD's up for a "worst case scenario"... Read full review »
Much smaller than you think
I needed a 500gb drive to match my Lacie F.A. Porsche DVD writer. I thought I could stack the two on top of each other. But the drive is much smaller! It's the width of a cigarette box, the height of a little less than 2 cigarette boxes and the length of about 3.

This Drive is Crap
I bought 1 of these, it has worked fine. So, in january 08 i bought two more.
Bad idea. This new drive was brand new out of the box, connected 3 times to an MacBook. After moving a full year worth of professional photography to the drive, it stopped mounting and began making a load hum...
