Awesome LIVE sound.
Pros
A speaker with excellent LIVE sound. Crystal clear!
Cons
Mids are weak and bass just so so.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
An excellent pair of speakers, but save your money for newer klipsch speakers. For better bass check out Infinity speakers.
Build
These speakers are well constructed. Cabinet is very solid and look great. I will say however, that the grille design is really lousy and the plastic tabs that hold the grilles on, easily can break off. Also, the Klipsch logos on both grilles fell off, needing to be glued back on. I don't even use the grilles because soundstage is better without them, plus the copper color of the drivers looks great showing (without the grille).
Audio Quality
Keep in mind that these are loudspeakers with horns (horn loaded), instead of the more commonly used tweeter. The effect of this is a very bright, somewhat colder sound, which demands a large room (15' x 15' or bigger). These speakers truely shine where you can crank the volume. Bass will not sound excellent at first as there is about a long burn-in period, after three months that the bass opened up and sounded better. Also, sound is very detailed and highs are awesome. Mid-range however is very frustrating and recedes a lot (get a good equalizer!). Bass is a bit disappointing and adding the largest Klipsch sub-woofer is recommended.
Personal Experience
Be careful, these speakers can be fatiguing and can produce serious ear damage. Keep the volume low in smaller rooms.
The more-technical sound from the RF-3's may not be for everyone! Extended listening can become difficult and fatiguing. Positioning is very critical as these are beamy speakers. Soundstage is very specific, yet pleasingly wide.
Recommended Uses
-Larger rooms.
-Uninterrupted space.
-Home Theater - definitely add a sub-woofer and surrounds
-Connection to a high-end amp (80W/channel - 200W/channel.)
